I went with the Satan adapter and R1 shock on my 2012. The shock is from a 2008 R1 with the yellow spring which Satan said is perfect for my weight (<200# in full ATGATT).

I looked up the stock setting for the 2008 R1 and adjusted from there to suit my riding finally settling on current setup and the bike rides like it's on rails without punishing the body.

For two up you may want to pick up a proper R1 pre-set spanner to make life easier on you. The only caveat is that the compression nut is semiblocked by the frame but with a small open end wrench it's reachable. The other compression setting is easy with an Allen wrench.

Total cost was under $200. The results; priceless.
