Are they rare?

Good afternoon fellow riders. I happened to notice that after I bought the ONLY gen 1 FZ1 off of Craigslist Minneapolis there has not been another 1 listed since. My wife did a search and found only 2 for sale in the country. My mechanic said he nearly never sees them. I am glad I impulsively pulled the trigger on this bike. The guy I bought it from asked if he could buy it back because he thought he would be able to replace it after he relocated but also found they are hard to come by. It's not like me get so lucky. Maybe a good investment, except for the fact I cannot see me ever selling it.

There is one really overpriced one on there now.
https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/c...105329185.html

Guy wants $3500 for it - has 60K miles on it. But otherwise they pop up pretty frequently - when they are priced right they seem to sell quick. I bought mine off the Minneapolis craigslist last summer.

The one that has me drooling was the 2017 that had 100 miles on it. But it sold

Also there are 2 Gen 1's locally (Mound and Delano) on FB market place each at $3000 - which also seems pretty high

FZ1 only was in production till 2015, not 2017.

The gen 1 has been of production for 15 years so not surprising they are few and far between.

Hmm, I wonder what this is then

The seller is Motoprimo - the local Yamaha dealer

Either a typo or the dealer was lying.

Yeah, I suppose that would be it. Still wondering if I should have gone over there and looked at it. But my FZ is finally working well after the 20th time messing with the carbs, so I'm not as inclined to dump it for a fuel injected version.

I have noticed FZ1s have been fetching higher prices lately. In general, bikes over this way have been selling quickly lately. There are a few models I watch regularly. The FZ1 is among them. I've seen a few clean-ish gen1s list lately for more than I thought they should, and then disappear.

To answer your question Troydigz, it's been a "sleeper" for a long time. Not lots out there and not a huge following. But it's a beautiful comfy, fast, reliable bike that is loved by those who know it (i.e. members of this forum). Many here no longer own an FZ1, but most of us still have an affinity for the bike.

And, yeah, Gen1s are no less than 15 model years old and gen2s are no less than 5. They could both be had very cheaply for a long time, due to both that it is a "sleeper" and due to them now being out of production. I've noticed fewer and fewer showing up. I imagine they either die (difficult to kill one, though), get crashed/dumped, or land in the hands of someone who will keep it forever. A result of this combo of factors, yes, becoming more rare. Not sure they'll ever be worth big bucks, but ya never know!

Not a rare bike by any means, someone was searching wrong if they only found 2 in the country. I can usually find a few just in the lower half of my state.
That said, they are becoming less common. Their process have been low for a long time, which definitely enticed a lot of squid riders, which likely led to them being totalled in a junkyard somewhere. Being 15 years old at the newest, makes them less and less common.

there are a few for sale near me which is unusual (sorry talking about gen 2 now) and I'm surprised how much they're asking. The proof is the sale price though

About as rare as any other early 2000s bike.
