Some new tunes I did

Hey gang,

So, last fall I met a co-worker (Alec) who just happened to have an EPIC studio here in the greater Boston area—yet had never recorded his own stuff. He could play a good guitar, but didn't sing/do melodies, which is kind of my forte. So a week later we had a little get-together with our acoustics and immediately starting writing together.

Then we gathered some fantastic local musicians that he knew to help us create the first release of our partnership: The Treehouse Sessions, Vol 1. We call ourselves Falls So Fast, which is also the title of the first track.

Now available in all the places that one accesses music these days, including Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, Amazon, and all the other places, too. So follow the links below if you want to listen, and if you enjoy it please follow and share around!

And yes, Volume 2 is in the works. Stay tuned!

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of this. Fantastic! Makes for great riding music too!

And I didn’t get an advance copy why? ??

I hear the same things Boot hears. Who tracked what? You both do some of everything? I know you probably did all the bass, most drum, and at least half the guitars and vocals. You share mix down too? Sounds pro as hell. How was the bass recorded?

Holy smokes, thanks for the compliments, gang! Glad you dig. it's more "roots" than most stuff I've done, historically. But I really enjoy it. We're already sharing roughs of 3 more tracks with our players, with another 3-4 getting close to ready. I'm guessing early winter the next batch will be ready.

Hooligan got an early copy because he and his lovely wife came to visit my home, and brought me good beer.

Lots of questions, LT! Let's see...

Alec and I worked together to write, compose, and produce all the tracks. I sang all the vocals, including all harmonies. The only added vocals are the end chorus of vocals in Evaporate, which includes my daughter and wife, my brother and his family, and Alec's wife. I also did some of the electric guitar work throughout.

Alec plays pretty much all the acoustic guitar you hear, and some electric, too (harmony on Falls So Fast, etc).

Alec's studio is the most pro place I've ever recorded, and I've recorded in some nice spots in LA. It was custom designed at a story and a half high, with curved ceilings and diffusers and movable baffles abound, and built ground-up with individually shielded wiring throughout. The gear and mics are insane; Neumann, ribbands, etc. He engineered everything, and basically mixed it all with my input here and there.

Bass and drums typically tracked first, then acoustic, vocals, and other candy laid over (percussion, keys, electrics, etc). Bass was mostly DI, with the exception of North Ontario (last track) which was an upright that was both mic'd and DI, done in the round live with two acoustic guitars—it's all one take. No click tracks. All vibe.

All tracks were mastered by Jeff Lipton (4x grammy nominee for mastering) and Maria Ri at Peerless Mastering.

The other players:

Dave Roberts: Bass
Mike Carlucci: Drums (all songs except Blessing in Disguise)
Chris Joyce: Keyboards on Falls so Fast, Evaporate and Think it Over
Marco Giovino: Drums on Blessing in Disguise (note: drummer for Norah Jones and various other big hitters)
Bill Filler: Add’l guitar on North Ontario

Nice! I have been playing fingerstyle acoustic for years. Wish you were closer to AR. We could rip during the day on scooters and rip at night on guitars.

Sweet. I'm more of a flatpicker, but I love to dabble with fingerstyle.

And I suspect I'd have a bike again if I lived down there. I sold it when I moved from SoCal to BOS. Riding season is just so dang short up here.

I would just like to reiterate what great riding music this makes. Listened to it Saturday morning on a ride to meet some friends for breakfast. It just fit the mood.

Thanks for listening y'all! Again, please feel free to share it with anyone who might like it. Just search "Falls So Fast" wherever you go for your music.

I really dig Evaporate, too. The keys on that song came out so tasty...

Next 7 songs are prepped! Just doing a little fine tuning and we should start laying foundation tracks in the next month or so.

Wife kind of stated some frustration of me being in two musical projects that are both meeting once a week (here's the other, if you're curious: https://www.shift-to-low.com/ ). It's a bit more driving/indie rock.

Shift to Low also rehearses in an in-home recording studio. But those three of my songs are all we've recorded in 2.5 years, despite us having 26-ish tunes at the ready. Falls So Fast did those 6 songs in about 6 months, with 7 more on the way—so much more productive. Might have to make a hard choice soon.

Go figure, right after writing this, last night we had a great vocal session on a new Shift to Low recording... I'm thinking my release of the Falls So Fast tunes have lit a fire under Shift to Low.
