Do Kawasakis just leak?

I couldn't post this on a kawasaki forum because I'll get death threats.

All the Kawasaki bikes I've owned to this date have leaked and I'm curious is that just how it is with them? Also, why do they keep putting sensors and covers that face the ground? Those are obviously the weak points.

Had an ER-6n back in the day, it would leak a half quart of oil per 1000 miles.

So the Concours has a camshaft position sensor that faces down that sits just above the exhaust. First oil change, immediately started leaking from the o-ring. Replaced with an oversized o-ring. Problem solved.

Changed the oil on the Z125 (500 miles on it). The exhaust valve cover faces down, immediately started leaking. Ordered an o-ring to replace it.

Is it just me or are Kawasaki o-rings junk. These aren't o-rings that I touch when changing the oil at all. They just leak.

Maybe. My 09 Versys leaked once. Bad balancer shaft replaced under warranty. Hasn't leaked again. New owner's a buddy. Rides it every day. Calls me when it needs maintenance so I'd know

We’ve had 3, no leaks. I believe the vast majority of leaks are due to over-torquing fasteners. Not implying you did anything wrong in your particular case, just an observation I’ve made looking at other folks issues in the past. Most folks way over tighten things on a bike.

I've had 2 Kawasaki's and they didn't leak.
Though my friend had a Concours 14 for a while and when it was still pretty low mileage and we were on a trip the rear gears on the shaft started leaking and he had to replace the seal when he got home.

Yep!

Also not saying this is the cause in the OP's situation...just that this statement is 100% accurate.

Have owned many Kaw's over the years and none developed a leak. Well there was this one KX 80 that leaked out all of its oil during a 12 minute moto.

The leaks I've had have been out of orifices that I have not touched. Never removed the valve cover on the Z125. Never touched the camshaft sensor on the Concours

Very few leaking issues that I see in the shop - but that one on the concourse is a known issue/Not uncommon.

OK...after the first moto I drained the oil, installed the drain plug, got distracted and then forgot to add oil. But hey, the result was the same...insufficient oil.

That was one hot bike after the 2nd moto. I thought I definitely ruined the bike but raced it for another couple months with absolutely no problems. Kawi's are tough!

Had an 05' Ninja and it was a great bike. Ran cool and never leaked anything. Purchased in the crate, so it was never abused.

I've had 2 KLRs and a KLX 650. None leaked, but the KLR engines are known for burning oil and both did, about the same as what Id heard of from other riders.

Had a ZRX and and Ninja 250. No leaks. Sounds like you've just had a run of bad luck.

I knew a mechanic years ago who told me Kawasaki tended to use cheaper parts than the other OEMs, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. That was years ago and it seems to me that Kawi has made strides in the fit and finish department. No, not on the same level as Yamaha, but pretty good IMHO.

Kawasaki has always used cheap components among the Japs. It is like the korean car makers of 90s. Since 2010, they have upped their quality though.

Had a Zephyr 750.
Only place it leaked was the gas tank, but that was more due to the previous owner letting it sit abandoned outside in some random parking lot for 2-3 years.
