Bought Otto some protection for his man jugs, still deciding on the look. The other options look weird too... I wish we could go naked but those heads are pricey if you have a dropsie.

You need one more zip tie to be truly custom. Like it.

Put the new magneto cover on the DRZ today
My son, who is the one the broke it, helped a lot with the repair. He really wants to learn and did most of the work. It went well, fixing a used bike is a crap shoot, but the only bolt that broke was on the shifter and that is getting tossed anyway. We installed the ThumperTalk case savers, project will finish tomorrow. And hopefully the DRZ cases will be save forever more. And 4x4's under the stands and front tire get the DRZ up enough where sitting on the floor it is at the right height, better than laying down to see those bottom fasteners.

Been messing around with the bone stock FZ-09 I picked up a little bit. The rumours are true, this bike is a blast to ride! Some carry over parts from my 1st gen have a new home now.

You should ride one. You might change your mind.

New rear T30 in prep for AR. Dang, they have a stiff carcass.
Changed oil & filter. I only have 3K on this change, but it was a good time to do it. Used the Bursig stand I got for the first time. It's a nice piece of kit. Works great. Bonus is that once on the stand you can move the bike around, unlike wheel stands. Also there's nothing in the way when you work on the wheels, which is very nice. Also did a general once-over and checked for loose screws on the brakes, exhaust, subframe, engine mounts, etc. Everything nice and snug.

Since I commute 100mi/day on the bike and go on some trips I wanted a simple luggage solution. I don't really want to add a top box to this bike so I decided i'd most often strap on backpack or tail bag on using Rok straps. I decided to go with the Shad arms (meant to be used with their case base plate) but made my own top plate, which was a pretty cost effective solution. I made the plate so it mounts with slots so it can be moved forwards or backwards depending on the load/passenger. If you look closely I also drilled and tapped the top plate (it's 5/16" thick al). I have several different sized Pelican cases that I can mount to the rack using these holes and low profile knobs from inside the case for times I do want a box. As with the other rack solutions the whole thing comes on and off the bike with 4 easily accessible bolts from under the tail.

How did you cut that shape and the holes?

Sorry, shouldn't of said "made" it. I designed it and had a local shop laser cut it and another local shop powder coat it. Total cost including the material was around $50. I'm lucky to have a couple shops close by that do good work with out all the minimum charge or set up fee charge nonsense that a lot of them have. No sense messing around with it myself for that price.

Beautiful day for riding today.
Rode my V-Rod around today. Talked to 2 young squids at the gas station. They noted my sport bike gear, Yamaha leather jacket and leather riding pants and were very confused by what they were seeing. ![]()

DougPalo rode up here on his FZ and we both synced our carbs. We also did a rebuild for his wife's bike on the front end adding Racetech hardware for the FZ6.
Best, Ron

Changed oil and replaced clutch lever on the KLX. Used an old FZ1 clutch lever, which is much better than the one that was there. Somebody had put the adjusting barrel from a bicycle lever on it, and the ferrule on the end of the cable didn't fit in the adjuster properly. I polished the bushing and put a little grease in there so now it works much better.
Took it out for a little ride. Wow. It does get up to 70 mph but there is no punch at all. Open the throttle at highway speed and nothing happens but a gradual increase in speed. For an engine half the size of the SDR's 1290, it sure doesn't have half the power. No quick highway passes on this bike. But that's cool. I got it for a different purpose.

Went to see the Cavanaugh Flight Museum and a huge gathering of P-51 Mustangs....totally in awe, maybe some of my pix are presentable. At a busy airfield those pilots have a hart time seeing past 16' of engine and the massive cowling.
Took the RS on a 180 mile tour of Texas curves making airplane noises at appropriate times. You expected too much from the KLX G, riding a DS after any of mine always shocks me....giddy up no mas.
