What did you do to your FZ today?

Dean ride ON !!! I’m inspired ...75 is the new 50 ,
This has become more meaningful to me as I am approaching 63.
Just in case , not for Dean he is clearly in the know and very cool, the quick shifter allows for smooth full throttle no clutch shifting, only up shifts , down shifts I still use the clutch...for around $300 bucks .
Check it out !
Cheers

Fork swap done. I love it that so many parts are interchangeable between the Gen 2 FZ1 and R1

Stuff I still need:

- front and rear indicators
- LED headlights
- right side rearset. The one on this bike is broken. Or perhaps a good welder . . .
- grips
- brake fluid and bleed up front
- right side frame slider
- tag and insurance

Stuff I have for sale:

- Gen 2 FZ1 forks - gold. Good condition, 5K miles on them. Full disclosure, this bike was crashed once (hence the rebuild) but the forks work fine, have no signs of damage or warping, and cycle smoothly through their full range of motion.
- Gen 2 front brakes - calipers and rotors
- R1 top & bottom triple clamps and steering stem, 07-08
- Another R1 top triple clamp, 07-08
- 2 sets of 07-08 R1 clip-ons, 1 of them with controls
- Maybe a PC3 (see ECU flash below). It's on the bike now, may not keep it.

I'll list this stuff in the classifieds too.

I'm looking forward to upgrading this bike some more. Future plans include:

Traxxion cartridges
Penske rear shock
ECU flash
Speedscreen
engine guards
rotor R&R
Nice but didn't the Gen 2 FZ come with USD forks?
I guess the R1's are that much better huh?

Holy moly that exhaust looks like it sounds pretty nasty in a good way....

I'm too old to put something on my bike like that but 20 years ago maybe.

This past weekend my son painted a set of rims for my Gen1. Put some new PR2's on. When I get home tomorrow I'll put new bearings and seals in. I like it when he's not busy at the body shop.

Yes and yes.

According to Glenn Hinton (RavenRider here on the forum), who was trained by Traxxion and a rep for them, and did hundreds of suspension upgrades/rebuilds, the 07-08 R1 suspension are some of the best production parts ever made. Not quite in the league of a full Traxxion setup or Penske, Ohlins, etc, but at the top of the food chain for production hardware.

When time and money allow I plan to upgrade these forks with Traxxion cartridges and get a much better rear shock for this bike. Years ago a good friend had one with that stuff on it; I rode it one afternoon. I have never felt as confident as quickly on any other bike. It was a joy to ride.

I don't doubt they still sell it, I'm just wondering if they still manufacture it

I think they do. They're still on the website, anyway.
So are the Pilot Power 3's, which I thought were discontinued over a year ago.
Goofy website.

Well, I didn't do it today, but I recently wore out the Pilot 2CTs I had on the bike, so I put a set of new Dunlop RS3s that I had bought last fall. Got them on with some effort, but it was a bit chilly. I decided to suit up for a quick spin to break them in. I got to the top of my street, about a block, stopped, turned left and next thing I knew I was watching my bike slide. WTF? Never had that happen before. Got the bike up, no real damage except left side slider and the clutch handle both rashed. Ok. No biggie. Got it restarted and eased it back to the garage. I promptly cleaned the tires and actually did a light sanding on the rear. Waited for a bit, resuited and took it down the the gas station to fill up, with out incident this time.

I will reserve judgment on the RS3s until I have more mileage on them.

flushed coolant. Finally went for 1st ride of the season yesterday. Got momentarily stuck in mud/ice covered lane behind my garage, then wrestled it out and onto the street. Glorious!

My 05 came wearing RS3's and I even replaced the rear with another RS3 after the first one wore out. The one thing I've found with them, they HATE the cold. Anything under 50f and they are shit. I've had the rear break loose more times than I care to count.

Longevity wise though, I've ran around 7,000 miles on this latest rear, and as it's definitely worn down a bit, I'm guessing I can still get another 2k out of it pretty easily.

The rear did square off a little over winter due to more distance riding instead of hard cornering, but just after the last few nice weeks we've had, they've rounded off quite well due to riding with a bunch of youngsters and wanting to show them this old heavy bike can still hang easily.

Actually gonna try out the Angel ST's next round since I've heard good things and they only run $200 for the set

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind as I am often out in sub 50°F temps. As for the Angel ST's, hate 'em. Pirelli did away with a good thing when they replaced the Strada EMS with the Angels.

Got out Sunday for a nice ride. Ran up to TWO, had a excellent run across Wolf Pen, then a very spirited zip across Richard Russell where I constantly reminded myself to slow down. Clean road, almost no traffic, perfect temp, and was in the zen zone.

Now that these roads are literally in my "front yard", I rode it in under two hours, including the 20 minute stop at TWO to chat with folks. Six feet apart of course.
