Just rode. First trip with the hard bags (Kappa K33n) - very satisfied and glad I got them! Makes packing, travel, ect so much easier and hasle-free. Other than bringing them in at night, I just ran with them every day. Didn't feel them behind me like I thought I would.

Adjusted the Vortex Rearsets for what I think will be a good position on the track. Might change it once I ride a couple laps. Tried getting my suspension set up last track day and was told that the forks must be bent because the forks get stuck at the top end don't move freely. I knew something was up, but figured it just needed adjustment.

So got a set of R1 forks from the R1 forum. While installing new seals, I noticed forgot to put one part in, so took it back apart. Tore the seal in the process, ordered a new set, waiting on that. Should be ready for Little Tally this Sunday.

dropped in some LED bulbs in the retro. I like them. Got the Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0 H4's.

I'll post photos when Imgur lets me upload.....

edit: photos added.

low beam

not as wide as a projector retrofit, but not too bad.

bulbs look like this:

Pulled the carbs and replaced the float bowl gaskets. I didn't think to replace them last time I had them out and replaced the float valve orings and the bowls started leaking after install, so I got to do it again. Yeah me! I also put in new airbox to carb boots and new clamps for said boots. The old boots and clamps were in rough shape after so many carb removal and installs. The new clamps have socket head screws instead of the JIS heads. Then a new fuel filter got installed.

Sorry, didn't take pics. I will offer this tip though: If you install new airbox boots, you can assist installing them in by removing the air filter and pulling from the inside. It will help make sure they are seated good. I think you are suppose to use some kind of rubber cement with this as the old ones had a bit on there, but I had none and the fit was good and tight. No air leaks as far as I can tell.

Rode it up to Cashiers NC by way of Suches and Helen, found a window style BBQ place with good brisket. The manager was a little odd but friendly and I’m not sure where I’ll use the bacon chipotle bourbon grinder but I’m determined to find a place.

Was this in the same location as the old North Carolina BBQ joint? We used to grab food there every time we rode through, but they moved to the coast near the end of 2017. At any rate - it's good to know there's a food option in Cashiers.

Nope, that's not it. Thanks for the heads-up on a new place to eat though, there's not many options in that area.

edit... found the info on the one I was referring to:

We usually stick with Mountain Fresh Grocery about 10 miles South in Highlands.

We tried a Mexican place where 106 comes into Highlands that I’ve dubbed 50/50. Half the food was good, half was cold. Half the staff was helpful, half was downright angry.

I have some free time coming towards the end of summer so I’ll be exploring some additional places.

Took off the SW Motech rack off the bike and replaced it with a Givi. The SW has a bent spot on the Alu-Rack and it makes the top case sit crooked. Minor issue, but it was bugging me. I may throw it up for sale cheap, if you're coming to the Rally, let me know if you're interested and I'll throw it in the car. I really don't feel like messing with shipping it.
Also cut down a stock windshield and painted it black. Almost Rally time!!!
Obligatory picture

Took it to Blood Mountain and the surrounding roads.

Heads up for those planning a visit in the near future they're working on the road and have what I think of as the best sections shut down on the South side of the mountain on 129. They're working at a decent pace and doing it right, yanking the old stuff and putting down new asphalt instead of tar snakes and patch jobs.

The North side has fresh asphalt.

I put a fresh tank of gas in it, rode it to work. Same as I do every night just about. Except tonight a raccoon ran in front of me. Couldn't avoid the poor feller. He hit the left side of the bike around the foot peg. I don't think he we under the tire, I'm not sure. The bike got just a hair squirrelly (raccoony?) for a sec, but that was it. That makes the second critter this year I've hit, and bigger than the first, a squirrel. I hope this doesn't become a trend.

If it's not too old, they are not all that bad when BBQ'd.

I know this thread is about FZ1 stuff...but...New asphalt going up Blood Mountain justifies hijack. I have had dreams about such! Having 2 lanes for lines is a treat. Back to topic.
(oh yeah...adding BBQ coon to list)

Let me know what time you plan to be in the area. May zip up to check it out as well.

I rode through there last Sunday and the backside had been done, which was really the roughest portion. Nice and smooth. The front side had a few rough patches near the top, that I've learned to anticipate, but glad I went have to anymore. Look forward to seeing it.
