Might be best to have a shop go it honestly. As you have to splice into your harness.

Wow. I had no idea anyone had those so early. The first "fancy" instrumentation I recall was on the Honda Sabre. Had that LCD display with gear, clock, temp and clock!

I believe my 73 GT550 or a 72 water buffalo? ware the first bikes with gear indicators, it became a Suzuki trademark. GT then GS bikes.
First bike I had with key on dash too. First bike I owned with disc brake. 71 CL350 used drum. Not sure whem CB750 or CB350 got Disc?

Dash from a 82 GS1100. The center window is the gear position. Also came equipped with a very sophisticated turn signal canceler.

Gen 1 bars by the way.

My 2 cents is to leave the gear indicator off the bike for now.

I have one I installed years ago, and yes I like it.

But it required cutting into the wiring harness behind the instrument cluster, soldering, and took a little bit of creativity on mounting it.

At this point, just take a victory lap for putting your carbs back in and enjoy the bike. As you don't have the instructions, I just don't want you to accidentally fry the electronics.
