I think okaugust might want to avoid this crocodile farm. There were about a dozen pens all packed like this one.

Bought myself a DJI Spark drone a few days ago and finally got to take it out for a test flight. I've been looking at houses near a beach called Blacksmiths. Being winter the lifeguards aren't patrolling but it was a beautiful day and there were a few people on the beach.

I like crocs! About the only critter that gives me the heeby jeebies are spiders, but I still take photos of the neat ones. I just can barely look at my own pics.

When I went kayaking with Woodsatyr, down in Florida, I asked "how many gators are in this river?" To which she replied, "A lot."

Snakes too, family lore is that my parents, both college students when they had me, kept rattlers in cages behind the house to milk for venom. Drove my grandmas nuts. But growing up I was always fascinated with them. Had friends with them and we'd handle them all the time, and my son had one as a 5 years old.

Too much work though.

This is my mother back then, preparing for her eventual career dealing with politicians.

On the flip side, on to pets, this is Teddy the Hot Tub Turtle, a Western Box Turtle. When my son was in 2nd grade, he got the honor of keeping Teddy for the summer, by his 2nd grade teacher, Mrs Green. When she retired to sell Mary Kay after the 3rd grade year, she bequeathed the classroom turtle to us. My son is 27 and still has him. We joke he's going to have to get added into the family trust because he will outlive us all. I've tried letting him roam in the yard, but he gets mites. He loves to sit in his hot tub and bask. And he loves it when I sing "Teddy, Teddy, Teddy the hot tub turtle" to him like a little bluegrass ditty. He does this thing with this throat back, puffing it out.

Pets?

A couple of Facebook pics from my daughter of her dog Kosa.
Every time I see a new photo of her face, it cracks me up! (the dog, not my daughter )

Your daughter is beautiful!

My old rescue Golden, Dante, who once barked until I came outside to see what the ruckus was, to find him trying to let me know the elderly neighbor was tangled up in her walker, couldn't get up, and was baking in the hot, humid Ohio afternoon. He was a good boy.

I had a Siamese cat, Sasha, who was a turkey FIEND. She never begged of any other people food, but at Thanksgiving, she was like a shark in the water around the table.

Our Grace, 12 and a half, had cancer a month ago, tumor on the spleen, had the spleen and tumor removed. Doing great now, vet said it could come back but that might take a year and at that point she is about at the normal life span for a dog her size. She is a member of the family.

Beautiful dog. I am glad the surgery worked out and you have more time with your family member.

Nova:

KO:

KO has a large tumor on her back, confirmed as cancerous. It's a fibrous mass, now about the size of a tennis ball, that would require removing at least twice its diameter, followed by chemo and radiation. She's almost 11 - already up to average lifespan - but healthy and fit and playful as ever, and she doesn't even know it's there. My ex and I agree, no way we would put her thru that. If it starts to bother her, we'll re-asses, but I doubt I would ever subject her to months of recovery and obvious discomfort. I love my dogs as much as my daughter, but I also let one of my pets go "a little too long", he died in my arms, I know he suffered and I was selfish for not letting him go sooner.

Been there myself. It's tough. Probably one of the toughest things in life to do.

#4 - Yuki used to sleep in a glass bowl on a coffee table, until he bolted off the table one day & busted the bowl.

Our next to last cat, Nero, or aka Mao, The Chairman, a clever master of communist espionage, he would sit at the bar in the kitchen just like Mike and look like for all the world to be his, he just needed thumbs. He had his own fantasy football team, based mostly on players on cat or bird teams, and usually beat the odds and won a .25 or two over the season. Mike called him his Henchcat, and kept promising thumbs but never delivered. When people came to visit that he didn't know, which was pretty much everyone, he would go to the master bedroom and hide in his undercomforter lair. When we sold our house, I had to take a piece of paper, write CAT with an arrow and a circle with whiskers so prospective buyers didn't wonder what the huge lump in the bed was. He made friends with only close family, and a couple of other people in the world, one of which was Brad's son, John.
