Iím Late to the Party

Iím late to the party, took me 16 years to discover the joys of an FZ1. I bought it with the intentions of ďtestingĒ to see if a sport touring machine is for me. Got a decent price on it which would make it easy to flip if I decided to go back to sitting on my tailbone or upgrade to something similar but newer.

Well, things have changed and I simply love this old dog. Now my mission is to make it a super clean copy. So my question is this. Is it best for me to bring the full skunk back by painting, or trying to match paint, the front fairing? Or paint the entire bike?

My suggestion would be to eliminate the fairing and get naked!
The "Skunk" was my favorite of all the versions . . .

Damn, FUP, thanks for the fast response. I don’t mind the naked look but I really like the wind protection. Even with wind protection, ear plugs, and a full face helmet I’m still noticing a touch of ringing in the ears these days that isn’t getting any better.

If you really like it, and it matters to you, go ahead with a quality paint job. Won't make it faster or better, but you'll enjoy looking at it even more. Those skunks are beautiful, so take some pride and make it look mint.

I was one of the first to remove the stock fairing. My main motivation was because of the useless fairing. It was "styled" to sell but not to function. Once the fairing was gone I could put a proper fairing/windshield on. I've moved on from the FZ1 but I have to admit --- that was a fantastic sport touring bike. Dollar value - as good as it gets.

Nice bike don't listen to the others about getting naked. That fairing helps, especially on the longer rides.

I've had two Gen 1s and plan to keep this one for as long as I can.
