Clutch lever adjustment

I know this has been discussed but not sure about THIS specific question. My clutch will engage, I.e. bike starts moving, when the clutch lever is almost all the way out. I've attempted adjusting the cable in all three places available and can get it better, but results in the lever being "floppy". In other words it won't spring back all the way. I have to push it the rest of the way back with my fingers.

The question is, can this be remedied with some secret adjustment I haven't figured out yet or is this indicative of overly worn clutch plates?

Before you try anything else, remove the lever from the pivot and grease everything. Could just be that the cable barrel isn't rotating in the lever. Also worth shooting some dry lube (or whatever you like) into the cable jacket itself

My high mileage Gen 1 does the same thing. If I crank the adjuster so the lever is near the top (furthest away from bar) that makes it easier to find 1st and neutral but harder to pull.

If I leave it close to the bar it's easier to pull on long rides.

If it snapped back to the top would that make me any happier, probably not.

I've got about 110K on this clutch. It doesn't slip in any other way, so I'll just keep going till it does.
