I did the Alps last year on a rented Ducati Monster 821. It was an awesome tour led by Edelweiss Bike Tours. I rented through them and you should look into renting from them. They are HQ'd in Meiming Austria.

Riding up and down the highest passes was great even in the rain. Passo del Stelvio has to be ridden to appreciate it.

Thanks all for the well wishes. I've ridden the Alps end to end already and never tire of it. Have seriously considered living at least part of the year in that part of the world specifically to ride motorcycles through high passes over and over again. I'll post up again when my plans firm up.

Best,
Ron

The first time I did Stelvio, we came in from Sondrio by the lake and it was beyond words spectacular. Furka, Grossglockner High Alpine Road, etc... were all fantastic.

Best,
Ron

Brother let me tell you, after I lived here for the entire 2014 riding season and getting out as much as I did, you will be spoiled to ride anything else afterward. Motorcycling is just better here for about a thousand reasons. People accept bikes, the Germans know how to drive and ride. Everyone has the proper gear, bikes are in great shape. Everything is scenic. I cannot begin to tell you how much fun and relaxing it is to ride here.

Best,
Ron

Agreed! I tend to lump it all together and should have just said "Central Europe." I could never tire of riding throughout the whole of Europe.

Wow

Not only great customer service on replacing something defective, but I noticed from your story that 1) the store had a great variety of helmets, 2) someone actually approached you for customer service, 3) that person actually knew something about what she was selling, and 4) she actually was helpful - she didn't have to tell you about the replacement.

The ancients have stories of long ago when they experienced such things here.
