some info.....

http://wwws.musicmatch.com/faq/RIP013.htm

you can even get the musicmatch user guide there (2nd link).

when i burn mp3 CD's (CD's filled with mp3 songs that i can play on an mp3 capable CD player), i use roxio easy CD creator. haven't ever done it with musicmatch.

i DO use musicmatch to extract songs from music CD's to mp3 files on my hard drive.

i'm not sure about extracting 5 secs of a song.... i'm sure its possible, i just haven't done it.

"sound recorder" is still around. you have to go to "accessories - entertainment" on most computers. it's in the accessories menus somewhere anyway.

the last time i wanted to extract a portion of music, i had planned on recording the music down onto my computer as a wav file, then using "sound recorder" to extract the portion that i wanted, then use musicmatch to convert it to mp3. i never tried it, so i can't say if it works or not, but that was the gameplan that i had in mind.

Just caught this and was going to recommend Cool Edit (usually a free version available) or Cool Edit Pro. Also Sonic foundry had a good product in Sound Forge and I checked up on it (it's been awhile). It seems Sony Pictures has acquired them, and have some deals, packages to..

I might have to look them over onceagain.
