Mt girlfriend wants a dirtbike

Tax season is here, and my buddies girlfriend just bought her a new beta 250rr. (she is trying to sell my GF her old beta 125 but its too much money for what it is) My girlfriend is tired of sitting at home when i go on dirtbike trips so she wants to give it a go. budget is 2-3k and it needs to be plated. So far i think i have narrowed it down to a crf230l and a klx250 dual. The crf250 is nice but the used prices on them are still sky high. Any one else have any other suggestions? She is a 5'5" so height is an issue.

My experience with newer riders is get them a bike that they can touch the ground easily. At 5' 5" I think a CRF230 would be a better choice. Yamaha has something similar in a "big wheel" version. The Yamaha bike usually don't have a plate, so riding on the road could be a problem.

crf230 is a decent bike. Pretty darn reliable. They aren't particularly powerful, which I suppose could be a good thing. It might have just felt that way be because I am a 250lb guy though...haha. Could also look into a ttr230.

Yamaha TW200? Or anything from their TTR/TW lineup? Beginner bike, they definitely should be able to flat foot it. Even a TTR125 or something could work well...

I used to have a ttr. They are nice, I feel they are a bit smaller than the crf or klx. I was looking at the dr350, but they are a bit to heavy for woods with her. Air cooled maintenance is nice though.

I like the TW200 if it has to be plated, OR if you can plate dirt bikes there, get her a TTR125 or a TTR225/230. At 5'5" she'll fit perfect on a TTR225/230. (the only difference in the 225 and the 230 is the graphic on the bike) Whatever it is make SURE it has electric start, and good luck!

Maybe a Kawasaki Sherpa 250, but they're rare.

IF you can plate dirt bikes relatively easily AND if you don't need to ride on the road very much another option may be the klx140G. The G model has full size wheels (21/18). The nice thing about the 140 is that it is a lot lighter than the 225/230/250s but still has a good bit more power than the 125s. (I'm referring to air-cooled trail bikes, not water-cooled mx bikes)
A buddy of mine had a 140G and I was impressed with how peppy it was and how well the suspension worked.

Agree on the KLX140G, a friend's wife had one. He was an MC mechanic and had it all pimped out with a big bore kit, barky full exhaust, inverted fork and remote res shock swapped suspension, pretty graphics, etc.

His wife had no problem riding with us on on our 300 2Ts on the swervy single track we were riding. Literally, she was on our asses. The bike was very good, but she had some talent too

When I was looking for the same, it came down to CRF230L or XT250, ended up with a CRF230L since a deal on one came along.

The question is, does she have a sister that also likes bikes? ;)

Haha. Her parents both ride victories. She has no ambitions on riding her own big bike. She likes riding on mine. But she feels she can do the dirt deal.

The best road riders come from dirt...............
I'll be the first laughing my ass off when she spanks you. As above, Kawasaki and plenty 8f gear.

When I got my wife and daughter into it, I bought my wife a (new) XT250 thinking she would like it and possibly also use on the street now and then.

Wrong - she hated it in the dirt. Didn't like how it handled, felt heavy to her.

Ended up getting her a TTR230 and she enjoyed that, as does my daughter when I got one for her as well...

.. so I'd caution against going with anything until she's at least had a chance to sit on it..

She is going to put around on this next weekend. If she really likes it we can get it for 4K.
