I feel he was fully responsible, if im T-boned for blowing through an intersection its my fault. It would be different if he had stopped, saw the car, miss judged the cars speed then proceeded to pull out.
Very true.

Fat chance of that. It'll be a squid hangout and a photo op destination.

My thoughts on the "blame" are simple - he proceeded into an intersection without checking that it was safe to do so. Ultimately it's the number one cause of collisions, especially crossing oncoming traffic.

It's also one of the simplest to avoid.

As a rider, I'd be surprised if he would have done that intentionally. We're all a little more aware and cautious than the average cage operator.

I'd say he was distracted by something.

Agree.

It is sadly ironic that someone as talented as Hayden, who piloted the most difficult machines to pilot (a GP bike) at the highest level for years, was killed on a freakin' bicycle. Surely, if it can happen to someone like Nicky, it can happen to any of us.

Life has gotten "fast" with so much coming at us, we do need to be intentional about filtering it out and being "present" when potential danger exists. When behind the wheel, handlebars, even just crossing the street, when in motion, put down the phone and be present and aware out there.

Running a stop sign and wearing ear buds. Not a good combo.

I've been very critical of my GF, who is a GREAT driver for the most part, but when she's on the phone, she drives like an idiot and is obviously distracted - and doesn't believe me.

Google Maps street view shows that intersection to be surrounded by very tall hedges and is completely blind. I can't imagine just blowing into it under any circumstances, but apparently that's what happened.

It's so obvious to pick out who's on their phone when driving. They look and act exactly like drunk drivers. I feel the two offenses should be handled the same way and carry the same punishments. I'd much rather share the road with someone with a BAC of .08 than someone on their phone.

I remember seeing it last year. I think he lived there, and likely had done that ride a ton of times.
