From the FZ1OA message board User Agreement:
Quote:
Posting copyrighted materials or links to copyrighted materials is expressly prohibited!
From the owner's manual at the site linked above:
Quote:

So can we post links to copyrighted material or not?

If I were a judge, I would throw out the "no links to copyrighted materials" rule out for ambiguity (actually, it's not ambiguous - it's just not enforced as written)!

You'll excuse us if we fail to find any humor in jokes regarding this topic.

Links updated.

Those are direct links to Yamaha's own web site bypassing their selection mechanism for convenience. They own the copyright and if they want to make them available for download then that is just good customer relations on their part.

If that was not a Yamaha web site then the links would not be allowed.

No joke intended. I was sincerely wondering about the need for the copyrighted material ban - at least as it's currently written. And I think it's wonderful that Yamaha shares owner's manuals online. There is a wealth of other wonderful copyrighted material available online, too. I don't think we should ban people from posting links to all the great copyrighted stuff online (like these owner's manuals!).

The ban on posting links to copyrighted material is clear and in plain and simple English (unlike my apparently misunderstood posts - ) : no links to it - period. If this rule isn't to taken literally, maybe it could be made a bit more clear? Certainly we don't want folks sharing their bootleg service manual CD's here, but 99% of "copyrighted material" doesn't fall into this category. We're not prohibiting posting URL's to the 99% category, right? Am I not making any sense here?

I'm really sorry if anyone finds my unsolicited suggestions offensive. Please feel free to ignore them. I'm used to it.

Sincere suggestions aren't offensive.

I think the guideline is fine as-is, because everyone around here pretty much knows the spirit of the rule-- if you're supposed to pay for it but are getting it for free, it's BAD and we will have no part in it.

If you post links to bootleg stuff, we will dispatch Desmo to come and personally bitch-slap you. (He's actually cold-cocked a Brahma bull that way, so you DON'T want to go there.)

If you post a link to something that is officially being made available by the copyright owners, then it's no problemo.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm assuming most of the members here (excluding maybe Dipps, but he's "special" and deserves a break here and there) are reasonably intelligent folks who know right from wrong, and can get the gist of "don't steal."

Pat/Mods,
Please update the links in the initial post. They work when I grab everything within the double quotes and paste it into a browser address bar.
