Ordering gen-1 parts

I ordered some parts from partshark, two months ago, they took the money & then say Oh, we don't have them in stock we ordered them from Japan, now they say I'll have to wait another month , it seems gen-1 parts are becoming harder to get, next time I order parts I will call first to see if the parts are actually in stock or not, I thought they would put part not available on the web site.

They do that. If they list a part as not available any longer, that means it is not being made anymore, and there are none left.

Sme parts are state side, but a number of them are still in Japan. Hence your wait. Just be happy you can still get them. Case in point, there is only one color of gen.1 gas tank, deep purplish blue with the white Yamaha lettering on the sides, that one can still purchase, brand new. All the rest are gone, and not manufactured any longer.

Won't be long, most of the gen.1 parts will not be available any longer, also. Yamaha has moved on, with manufacturing them. Bikes are getting too old to be relevant, to making replacement parts.

Dean

P.S. at almost 75 years of age, me along with my two gen.1 FZ1's, are also not relevant anymore! lol!

It's not partshark... they don't stock much of anything.. almost everything gets ordered from one of the US Yamaha warehouses.. and if they dont have it in stock, it has to come from Japan... this is pretty common with all of the online vendors!!!

Yeah they all come from the same place, partshark, rocky mountain etc..

What I do, is if they do not show the quantity you need in stock, none of the big sites will, type the p/n in ebay. Almost always there is a seller on there selling the part, usually a small wholesaler or a dealer.

But why does it take 3 month for a package to ship from Japan?

Customs.

Took 3 weeks to receive beta parts the other week.

It’s why you always look for “us stock”

I once order a steering wheel from Russia for my car.

1 week to get to US customs.

2 months to CLEAR US customs. This was around 2014 when we still had sensible sanctions on them, probably had something to do with the low priority...
