Fuel Tank replacement questions

I'm compiling a list of parts to fix my bike and am at the Fuel Tank section. The parts fiche shows a few items that I do not know if they are reuseable from the original tank or not. The items in question are numbers 40-43.

I can't really see from your drawing (too Small for me to see) but I looked at a typical OEM parts diagram for an FZ1 and it looks like you may be asking about the foil back dampener pads on the bottom of the tank? If so, you will not likely get those off the old tank without tearing them. I also saw a drawing that referred to the rubber pieces at the front of the tank. They to rip apart when you try to get them off. However you can get a foam weather stripping from Ace hardware that is almost identical in size and density to those top strips.

Sorry about the file size, that's the best I could figure how to do with the "Manage Attachment" do-hickey.
I believe you are correct about the pads, I believe they are foil heat shielding (never been under the FZ's fuel tank). I'm pretty much going to be replacing everything painted red except the front fender, needing to compile a repair list for the insurance claim. Do you think the fuel pump o-ring will be reusable?

I replaced my fuel tank and I reused everything except the parts that Fitty mentioned. I think that the new tank may have come with the foil and the weather stripping.

I just had to go through this ordering not long ago. There's a couple metal heat shields on the underside, but also don't forget about the foam weatherstripping on the front, there's 2 small pieces on each side, and a long one in the middle. The fuel pump o ring is ~$16 when I bought mine, I wouldn't reuse the old one. Also be forewarned the new tank will NOT come with the plastic side tank panels. They look to be secured with double sided tape, and can probably be heated and removed, but I'd add those into your insurance quote.

That is correct. I believe that the new plastic panels came with double sided tape.

Also any body panels you replace will not come with stickers or emblems. I learned that one the hard way. If you're replacing the painted air box cover in front of the tank, if I remember correctly the emblems for that one were like $45 each. Those small things can eat up your insurance check quick.

Bike pretty much just slammed straight down on the RH side, only slid about 2 feet. Rashed RH mirror, dented tank, bent rear brake lever, foot peg, handlebar, rashed brake lever, rashed/cracked front fairing bent/rashed frame slider.

Then as luck would have it, the bike fell over on the flat bed tow truck, which rashed the LH mirror and the LH grab handle. Tow truck driver gave me a free tow and cash to cover the rear cowl piece that has the grab handle. I did not know about the LH mirror getting damaged (was in the hospital).

So the tank does not come with the foam pieces or heat shields?

Thankfully, that section of plastic is fine.

heat shields, foam tape

I'll double check when I get home later but, I bought an OEM tank from ebay. It was in the Genuine Yamaha parts shipping box and it came with all the heat shields and foam tape already applied to it. Again, I'll check it later to be sure and repost when I'm sure.

When I bought my tank from a online parts dealer, it came painted but otherwise bare. No gas caps, heat shields, or foam striping.

If I can make a suggestion, to avoid rash in the future, change your sliders to 905 race armor. Fermic and I like ours. Good quality stuff and are about double the width of the LSL sliders I had that didn't protect much other than the cases and frame.

complete

The tank I bought had all the foam tape, heat shields and side pieces. It was from Broward Motor Sports originally. Maybe the person I bought it from put all those items on himself but they are perfectly applied and look factory. If you want to PM your email to me I'll send photos.

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at the 905 race armor. I saw that on the photo of Fermic's bike and it looks somewhat like a stunter cage. I think my bike had Shogun sliders installed, I didn't put them on. The carbon fiber wrap literally "exploded" when it hit the ground, lol.
