"Hiya" app - anyone using it?

Stumbled across it today. It's an app that identifies and/or blocks calls on your cell phone. iOS and android.

Connects to a massive database of numbers to then tell you if the incoming call is a scam or spam. Users can also report/flag calls and you see the comments. You can also manually look up numbers to see if they are bogus.

Have seen some people complain about privacy issues but I haven't seen a good review from an outside source yet. Yes it uploads your contacts into their cloud according the the app.

So I installed it and a few minutes later had an incoming call the said "scam". Cool. I get a lot of these because my moms landline is forwarded to me and she gets bombed with this crap.

Anyone else use it?

You don't need to give out the number to get spam calls.

Interesting, would be great if you have telco responsibilities. Keep us updated.

Google OS will sell you out for a penny, some hacks get your number at times too. Ive been ,ucky, same # for 35 years and very few unwanted calls.

NPA and NXX info isn't a secret to any one. Then adding the suffixes to those is trivial.

Sharing your number with friends and others doesn't make you anymore vulnerable to spam/scam.

And sorry boot, but google isn't making money by selling your number to spammers. They don't have to pay for the info. It's readily available.

Google is actually getting more helpful with spam callers. Phone App is now collecting more feedback on calls and using it to display incoming calls from spammers in red with "suspected spam caller" and easy options after calls to block, report, etc.

It's been cutting down on my solar sales phone number additions to my gigantic Do Not Answer contact entry that is marked send all calls directly to voicemail
