What are they selling exactly? Why is it in motorcycle "parts"? Is it a fake ad? If so, worst fake ad ever.
It's CL, so you may or may not get something when you bring $500 to an undisclosed location where there aren't any video cameras. This is your brain on drugs.

I don't even waste time looking for stuff on CL anymore. Sick of wading through scammers and liars for the occasional real ad.

This guy's been trying to sell this bike for months. Doesn't have ABS so it's not worth as much as 2010+ models but still a good price I think

Looks like an H2 motor? Like to see one in a good chassis setup with good suspension.

Bought my FZ1 on there and got a great deal.

Ya, I don't quite understand this one. Scams are usually a short sentence or two (as is the case here), but with an email reply option only.

This one has a "text or call." I'm guessing the call might go to voicemail, and the text might be responded to with a "My fone not werk proper. Email to scammer123@scammail.com."

At first I thought maybe legit. A 2008 track bike only could be in the condition that would justify only $1k, or be stolen, etc. But this bike has mirrors installed, headlight exposed, signals (though, flushmount).

If I was more curious and wanted to waste the time I'd call. haha

I've bought and sold several bikes, cars, and other items through craigs without issue. I can usually sniff the scams pretty quick.

Most of the time I can cross-reference a phone number with an address pretty quickly, and proceed to search google, linkedin, etc, and usually know way more than about the seller than they would ever intend before I have even agreed to show up. (Might be cause for some to avoid CL. lol)

On this end, I usually use a google voice phone number, if I'm worried about someone scoping out may and maybe coming by to check out or take my property when I'm not around.

In general, though, I've had little reason for concern, ever. Most people are just trying to wheel and deal. Even though I live in LA, I feel like most of my transactions are reminiscent of old-school-classified-ad-type deals between normal everyday folk.

Most scams I've encountered are the type described above (email fakeemail@scam.com), or a short text saying something like "Is your [exact description from the heading of the ad] for sale"? Or "is the item still for sale"? I used to respond with hostility and counter-antagonism; now I usually just ignore.

The most trouble I had was with a CX5 I was trying to sell for $15k. I got some funky responses on that one that weren't typical of either usual buyers or scams.

But most of my deals have been solid. If there's been any doubt in my mind about the security of the situation I either make one trip to check out and one to buy, or have my cash secured someplace not on my person. Almost every single time I've bought something I've gone to the persons home. If there are red flags from the outset (e.g. meeting at some weird place) and there is any risk involved (e.g. a sales price over $100) I just pass on the transaction.

Bought both my FZ's from there, but admit the second one was highlighted prior by someone here, I wasn't scouring ads looking for anything. As I said, there are some real ads, but there's so much bs, scams, outright liars, I tend to to use cl anymore. That's what FREE gets ya' though.
