The great Willey McCovey has died at 80. I was too young to see him play.
In all the interviews I've seen and heard with him he was always a class act.

RIP Stretch.

Oh and a Red Sox fan was stabbed by some LA fans. Once again, one group of fans may be really annoying, the other psychotic sociopaths. WTH is wrong with people over there and the LA/SF BS. Bill Burr's podcast from this week seems to have called it out pretty accurately.

You're younger than you look, he was still hitting homers for the Giants (second stint with them) in 1980.

He was definitely one of the most feared opponents when I was a Dodgers fan. Along with Willie Stargell hit some of the longest bombs I saw at Dodger Stadium. Was happy to see them name the cove at ATT for him.

RIP.

PS noticed in one of the articles he's one of a handful of players to homer in four different decades. One of the others to do that is Homar Vizquel.

True. But I was thinking of games I went to at candlestick. I may have see him once or twice but I don’t know for sure.

In the early 70s I was a huge As fan. Made sense because I was a kid and they were awesome and the stadium was easy to get to and because the RAIDERS!!

Ps. That game we caught at ATT. Was that Omar’s last game or was that a giants vs Indians game.

I know I was at his last game. But I don’t recall the rest of it.

That sounds like a tough contract to unload if a team implodes. 7yrs. 240 mil maybe.

That's an awful lot for a batting avg under .200 for the majority of the season with a million strikeouts. and a douchey personality.

For me, Trout is the only guys that could command $400M+

Trout is a super stud for sure and never has tantrums. As much as I want a slugger like Harper, I hate drama queens.

Trouts lifetime WAR is double Harper's. Pretty amazing.

Trout also roots for the correct NFL team.

The game we attended was in May and it was his first game of that year as he started on the DL following off-season surgery. His last game with the Giants would have been later that year.

It's hard to imagine a more overrated player than him, with a fairly mediocre attitude. He's had one great season, and the rest have been very inconsistent. Usually hitting for power, rarely for much else though. He does know how to walk though.
Now Machado is the other big free agent, but man does he seem to have one of the worst attitudes in the MLB. I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team.

I wouldn't want either on my team. Papelbon was definitely a hot head, but I definitely enjoyed the quick scuffle with Harper while he was there. Other players should get on each other for not running stuff out. Too much Hollywood.

The Phillies latest trade certainly shows an aggressive compete soon attitude. They give up a not quite ready shortstop for a Veteran SS, they get a badly needed LHP. They give up Santana, which means Hoskins goes to first. This opens up a spot in the OF.
IOW there should be no more talk of Machado, and the Harper or trade for Trout, or wait a year for Trout seems more likely.

Mariner fans are gonna go out to the ballpark and be like "Who are these guys? And where did our team go?"
