I've used that joke as well, but absolutely agree.. I'm not a boat person but those that are, it's their life. Like us and bikes. Or flying. Or whatever. If you like to go out once a year - rent! But if you enjoy the life on the water, then a boat is essential. If I lived on the water, I'd have a pontoon boat - with a cooler, a grill, and a place to store my fishing gear...

So in terms of recommended machines, I’m hearing: 3M, Flex, Rupes, and stay away from the cheapies. I appreciate those suggestions. How much am I going to pay for one of them?

Also, any suggestions on the best glop to remove the oxidation?

$300 most likely.

The other option is a powerful porter cable or something similar you can get a cheap warranty for when it dies. It's not a bad way to go if you are really only going to need it for a few jobs. Buy two from Harbor Freight, and use it until it dies, then use the next one until you can return the 2nd one. Return the unused one when you're all done.

Have owned and piloted various boats over the years and am comfortable with them. Don't own one now, but really enjoy having friends that do. Somebody has to competently pilot the boat while they are out back wake boarding
