When asked around, I found this to be a pretty unanimous response for those looking for a perfect solution:

So I have an SW Motec bag with the lock ring base. You bolt the lock ring onto your gas cap, then the bag has a mating adapter ring screwed to the bottom and they snap together. I tried both magnetic and strapped bags and both would not stay put. The strapped bags are a hassle to install and remove. I love the SW Motec system because of how easy it is to remove and put on.

All my bags worked fine on the FZ1 so no specific recommendation. There's already one above and there will probably be more. If none of them appeal to you or your wallet one option is to order something like this:

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...ryver-tank-bag

and convert an existing bag into a ring mount. If the bag doesn't have a bottom stiffener can add a piece of cutting board material or what have you to keep it from drooping. Did that on the FJ-09 with one of my old strap bags and it's worked well.

looks like GIVI does not list a mount for the gen 1 fazer, and I don't like the plastic one, so SW motech it is I guess.

I used to have xs308 on beemer, way to big for fz, looking at motechs.
