Praying Mantises are nasty little creatures. Closely related to cockroaches. They hang around my wife's humming bird feeders to try and catch one - which they can do.

I never see them out here. We don't really get cockroaches either. Not enough population density and too cold I guess.

The birds have been fleeting this late summer, but the bugs have been good.

Lots of hummingbird moths (White Lined Sphinx Moths), dragonflies, damselflies and grasshoppers.

This little guy landed on my leg last week while we were....

Building a bench here, as part of our volunteer work....

One of my favorite little areas for a quick hike during the day...

Hey, that's me on the right! (Not my photo, taken by the woman who manages the trail.) We hiked the parts uphill in two directions to build two benches.

This is the view from the other one..

And the other...

I got a new app called PlantNet. It's really cool, and easier to use for ID than bird apps, because I don't use my phone to take pictures of birds, but I can with the phone because plants don't fly away.

I've already forgotten what these are though. I'm OCD about cataloging birds, try to ID bugs and catalog a bit but not much, and plants, I just enjoy looking at them. But if you are the kind of person who sees plants and wants to know what they are, the app is great.

Harvest Moon

I have to laugh a little at all of the "THIS IS THE LAST TIME YOU WILLS SEE THIS MOON ON THIS DATE IN THIS COLOR FOR 40 YEARS!" "news stories" these days. Moon comes up every night, like always.

Standing in the Tongue River, cooling down, at Tongue River State Park, in Montana.

I don't do resolutions, like on New Years, though I did one almost three years ago to eBird every day, and have stuck with it almost 1000 days, but I think my "resolution" upon getting close to and reaching the age of 50 is going to be to start skinny dipping and stay with it.

After taking my Canon 7D to the Gulf Coast beaches earlier, I got a bit concerned about all the blowing sand & salt mist around, plus I didn't feel very good to swap lens in that environment. Also wanted something to keep in the car or tank bag and not worry about potential damage or theft. Something with a bit of optical zoom, 12 mp or so .. an older, cheap 'knock-around' camera. Checked a few pawn shops, whose display cases were crammed with all types of point&shoots, DSLRS and (what I wanted) a 'bridge' style camera. I ended up with a fairly new (4 YO) FujiFilm finepix S1 .. 16 mp, JPEG and RAW, 24-1200mm optical zoom (35mm equivalent) with IS, articulating 3 inch LCD screen plus optical viewfinder, weather-proof rubberized body, built-in Wi-Fi, 1080p x 60fps video with stereo mics, battery charges via USB, etc. A little nicer than I was planning to get, but it only set me back one Benjamin, so I'm happy.

First pic was the hummingbird feeder -

Then shot another type of bird flying overhead ..

That evening was the Harvest moon .. it must've been the same time as your photo, Tina. It was a perfectly clear evening sky in Texas, though ..

In Corpus Christi last week .. Met a guy with a nice '52 Ford ...

While downtown, I shot two pics of the USS Lexington (now a museum) across the Corpus Christi Bay. Full wide then full telephoto . I would love a 1200mm lens on the Canon 7D .. just can't justify a 5 figure piece of glass, so this will do.

Stopped along Shoreline Drive & took a quick night photo...

Gorgeous photos! That looks an awful like eastern WA & OR.

I liked Cedar Breaks. It was a hidden gem in the middle of a bunch of better known places.

John mentioned you told him to include it in our journey, good call!

That fire had been burning for three weeks.

Capitol Reef NP. Beginning of a trailhead that was supposed to be 3 miles but ended up being 5 because of a wrong turn.
