Preggy Hill does the Georgia Aquarium

Took a little vacation time today and went to the new Georgia Aquarium today. WAAAAY too many people there......and I hate crowds with a passion......but it was still a lot of fun. I just hope the crowds die down a bit soon so I can get some use out of my season passes soon... I'm not going to fight a crowd like that again anytime soon.

Anyway....here are some pics:

The beluga whales were a lot of fun to watch:

The main tank has over 6 million gallons, over 100,000 fish and has North America's largest aquarium viewing window. It's over 60 ft long (don't remember how tall):

It's also home to two 14 foot whale sharks (which will grow to be 40 ft at some point):

And some of the largest grouper I've ever seen in person:

The picture sucks.......but this kid is hanging on a piece of glass that's as thick as the viewing window:

To get a better view of this massive tank you can walk through the tunnel:

If you're pregnant and need a break (lots of them BTW), you can also lay down and look up :

The reef tank was really cool. All kinds of variety and action going on:

More to come....

Those pictures are WAY cool. I really enjoyed them. Thanks.

How do you get more than 3 pics per post, and with the text between them as well?

This cichlid tank is slightly bigger than the one in our living room.....

The eels were hilarious. They looked like blades of grass swaying in the current...and would pop in and out of their holes:

These spider crabs were HUGE. It's hard to tell how big they were from this pic:

Oops...forgot about this giant ray in the main tank:

The freshwater area had a lot to look at, including a pretty big tank of piranah:

You also walk under an overhead "river" while you look at the various tanks:

You can see the river here above the regular tank exhibit:

These little buggers like to climb. Asian otters:

The sea lion tank outside:

They had a few tanks full of sea dragons (fancy sea horses):

And finally....a final pic of Preggy Hill in front of a small wrasse tank:

I went 2 days before X-mas....you should have seen the crowds then!! I have annual pass and it still took me 30-45 minutes to get in. Its worth the wait though, incredible. My 1-year old wasn't all that impressed, too young, so we'll need to go back again since we couldn't catch it all.

Being a Home Depot employee I feel like I paid for part of it!

I have them hosted on my roadrashed.com site. Just posting links to them using the IMG tag. If you have pics of your own, but no personal webspace......you can use the boards picture uploader. It will give you a direct link to your picture and you can just use the IMG tags to post the links. It takes a little longer than "attaching" the pics.....but you can type whatever text you want between them. If you want to see what I'm talking about, just "quote" one of my posts and look how I typed everything.

If you didn't say where it was I would say you were in New Jersey.
They just re-opened and it looks very similar.
I got dizzy in the tunnel!!!

Who's daughter is that with you??

Excellent pictures! Kinda like scuba without getting wet.

You have to wonder what the fish think about all that...

I'll have to admit, the glow of motherhood suits her. Nice pics of the fish too. Thanks

the aquarium was amazing. still not sure if i like it better than the one in tennessee...i'll have to visit at least two more times to decide. i think i was more impressed with d's ability to restrain himself and not kill anybody. i actually had a harder time when dealing with the stupid crowds - these darn hormones are making me much less pleasant in trying times.

dipps, fiffy, and paul, thanks for the compliments i'm starting to feel pretty again. the first four months i felt and looked yucky. adrian, don't know if i should be insulted by your "daughter" comment but i actually appreciate it. i commented to d the other night that i think i actually look my age now...boo-hoo!!!!!
