It very well could be that motocraft doesn't make the specific pump, but they certainly have motocraft branded fuel pump assemblies which seem to use higher quality parts that do not fail as often. My friend (mechanic) has said he has found way more airtex pumps go bad in less than an year than any other brand. I asked what pump he recommended when replacing it on my vic and he recommended using a motocraft assembly. I am not sure what the OE assembly is, but if its the first one on your truck and it lasted 15 years, that would be my go to.

Pump alone can be changed, looks like Bosch has been used by a lot of Ford owners with good success.

I'll pull the assembly and see if I can figure out what brand the pump is.

For a Bosch? As mentioned above brand matters. I wouldn’t trust a airtex or a noname as far as I could throw them. If you can get a Bosch for half that for the whole assembly, do it!

Verify the part number with rockauto, generally they are pretty spot on.

I think he's talking about just the pump itself. It's also half the price on rockauto if you search using the Bosch part # from an autozone search.

Yeah, pump only. Suggestions I'm getting elsewhere (including F150 forum) are to just switch out the pump itself.

If the whole assembly is only $118 I’d change out the whole thing. Nothing is worse than getting the truck back together to find out the fuel sender doesn’t work, or stops working in a couple months.

And as a plus, you don’t end up smelling like fuel for 2 days, because you didn’t have to take the hanger apart and mount in a new pump!

If it was a Chevy, the fuel pump might be covered under recall. You might be onto something...

Woops!

Oh well, if it was a Chevy the ball joints and tie rods wouldn’t have let the truck get this far anyway

I've been told the opposite, which was the direction I was leaning as well - the cheap assemblies have been known to fail in short order. Just replacing the pump with a good one (Bosch seems to be the best choice) is a better way to go.
