That's funny, when I saw your picture, I thought that looked a lot like Lolo. I'm guessing that's the Lochsa River.

That's the one. Absolutely gorgeous country. I hope to make it back up there next year.

It is beautiful country, but the whole northwestern part of the country is full of beautiful places.

The next time you go over Lolo, head north and go to Glacier. Stop by the Nation Bison Range on your way there.

Nice, good to see a few pics from there and you!

The funny thing about the bison range is we went there a couple of years ago and I think we saw all of 2-3 bison. I had this "there will be dinosaurs on the dinosaur tour right?" Jeff Goldblum moment. Maybe they were all over a hill somewhere.

I've had the same experience, not just with the Bison, but with practically any creatures. The last time I was there, I could see a few Bison really far away, they were just black dots on the hill. Not only that, but I think I saw one deer, and that was it. Nothing else! Not even a hawk!

Then other times there has been a lot to see, like the visit that those pictures are from. But that is nature, isn't it?

Reminds me of an old joke, shame I can't find a copy of it, but anyhow...

A man dies and comes to. A guide says, "Welcome to the afterlife. Here there is no pain, no work. We know your greatest passion is trout fishing, and we have the most beautiful stream and more fish than you've ever seen."

The man can't believe his luck. Nothing but time to enjoy his passion. He goes down to the stream, rod in hand and makes his first cast and there's a strike! He fights and fights, then pulls in the biggest trout he's ever caught, over 24 inches. Wow! He casts again and there's a strike, followed by another hard fight. He pulls the fish in and it's over 24", unbelievable! He puts the fish back and casts again, and again catches another huge trout!

And again.

And again.

And again.

This is getting old he thinks, and goes and finds the guide. He describes what's happening and the guide says, "Yes, every time you make a cast here you'll catch a huge trout."

"This isn't anything like what I thought heaven would be like," says the man.

"What makes you think this is heaven?", replies the guide.

Looks like your cell phone camera captured those morning light pics just fine!

It was over 9 years ago when Tina gave us a glimpse of the monster residing in the Cheyenne, Wy rail yard ...
http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/sho...oy#post1828015

Then they brought one of these beasts back to life, and 'bradd' captured images of one hurdling through Iowa four months ago ..
http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/sho...oy#post2791814

It's again on the loose, this time rolling through the southwest & midwest before returning to Wyoming around Thanksgiving. Sighted in Luling, Texas ...

And Mike says that was awesome!

4004 from my post actually still resides in the park in Cheyenne. The one you saw, 4014, I think maybe was in the UP Shop there two years ago being restored and it's the one doing the tour now.

If you ever get to Cheyenne while they are doing the shop tours, it's super freaking awesome. Not only do you get to see what they are working on, but an engine museum of sorts of those they have fixed up and store or those they are working on eventually.

Deadwood

The restaurant, The Deadwood Social Club, is upstairs in an old building and has a lot of old photos on the walls. We found this place in 2008 when we rode up here for a couple of nights. I really loved this one. A moment in time.

I enjoyed visiting Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish & the Black Hills area, but it's been a while since I've been there. My brother used to live in Lead and worked in the Homestakes Gold Mine (which is now gone). My sister was a blackjack dealer for a couple of Deadwood casinos some years ago (which I understand are also almost gone from Deadwood).
